Hi Readers, and welcome back to hubpages. I don't want to go to far off my target so I'll be brief. We have several topics to discuss today so let's get started.
1.)Writing is as universal as eating, yet we all have diverse tastes in what we eat. Crying is also universal, but we all cry, or have cried about different situations. That's why when we as individuals set out to right a story it's all ways different and unique. There is no right or wrong way to tell YOUR story, so write it!!
2.)What is a screenwriter? A screenwriter is one who writes the outline, and blueprints for movies and television shows. Also they are the ones who get very little credit for the success of a movie or show. That's why before you set out to become a screenwriter you should way the pros, and cons to see if you are willing to give up you the glitz and glam.
3.)Finding an Agent is a very tedious choir, when starting out as a new writer. There's always the rejections as I stated in earlier in another hub"screenwriter talk and tips". Agents and Managers alike are very busy, and can only take so many clients before they too are overwhelmed. They usually take queries via E-mail and snail mail submissions. We'll talk later on "How to submit a query".
4.)The pitch, of course it's scary, but why? Well for one thing it's your first and only chance to sell yourself to an Agent, Manager,Producer or Director. After-all you've worked tirelessly for months, and sometimes even years to crank out that "AWARD WINNING SCRIPT". We can all relate to that. That's why when you get your opportunity to "PITCH" your script make sure you have all your ducks in a row. Don't go off half cocked, only to be rejected because of some minor thing such as an amateurish query letter, a typo, or something that could have been avoided by taking a few extra minutes to prepare for. Pitching your script is as important as having a script that's ready to sell. PREPARE to PREPARE!!
5.)Publishing a book is really the same as getting a script produced, so I won't take up your time repeating the same thing.
6.)Movie news can be readily reviewed @ garywinston-garywinston.blogspot.com,or screenwriters info. @ facebook.com. It is very important to keep up with every thing that's going on in the world of script writing. There are a number of resources where by you can read and study this and even more about screen writing.
7.)Now that you understand the importance of Pitching your script, let's talk a little about the script. First finding a good premise is hard, but can be done. Take the Movie premise and ask yourself a few simple questions:
(A.)Would A-list actors be willing to act in this movie?
(B.)Is this a movie that I would pay my hard earned money to see?
(C.)Would this movie generate interest, and in what age group, or viewing audience?
(D.)Is this genre known for producing high budget movies?
if you can answer yes to all these questions then you probably have a premise that's destined for the big screen, if not keep at it you'll get there.
Now let's take a look at preparing to write your movie. There's more to writing a movie than meets the eye. here are a few simple steps to help you get started:
(A.) create an Idea sheet- this is to help you sort through your ideas for your movie. Also to log your ideas so you don't forget them as they come to you.
(B.)Create a character sheet- this is to help you develop the arc of your main, and minor characters. It also help you relate when you are actually writing the script.
(C.)Create the outline sheet-this is to help you go scene to scene without creating WRITERS BLOCK. It is also used for editing and polishing work, but that's covered in another segment.
(D.) Create a research sheet- this is to show professionalism in your script. It helps your audience connect with what you are trying to convey to them. The research stage is very, very important in writing any script.
(E.) begin writing your script one page at a time. Don't worry about the quality of work at this point. I'll show you how to iron out the wrinkles later, for now just write your story!
We've cover a few of the basics about screenwriting. This is probably enough to help you get started on your way to writing that movie you've always wanted to see.
